"We have come to the conclusion that a critical element of nonprofit success that is often missing is fair pay," Jennifer Roller, president of the Wean Foundation in Youngstown, Ohio, says in a press release.
That's why the foundation has awarded $300,000 in grants to seven Youngstown-area nonprofits to compensate their employees for that fact.
Previously, the foundation had awarded $1.5 million in Community Investment Grants to seven nonprofits.
The Wean Foundation is a not-for-profit charitable organization that was started by the late Raymond John Wean, an Ohio car dealer and businessman who was known for his support of the auto industry, Cleveland.com reports.
"We have come to the conclusion that a critical element of nonprofit success that is often missing is fair pay," Roller says in the press release.
The Wean Foundation is on course to distribute more than $3 million in grants in 2023, including more than $80,000 of Resident Engagement Grants to support community-building in Warren and Comet neighborhoods.
